20 Million ton stockpile … history
The stockpile was originally owned by EVRAZ Higveld Steel & Vanadium which went into business rescue in 2015. At this time the Business Rescue Practitioners of Evraz decided to sell the resource as part of their rescue plan to VRB SA (Pty) Ltd, a private registered company in South Africa. TAM Alloys (previously known as Eco Earth Friends International) was subsequently approached by VRB SA after November 2016 to invest in the opportunity as VRB SA bought the stockpile from Evraz. VRB SA however also went into Business Rescue in March 2019 and TAM has since negotiated with VRB SA to take over the Evraz/VRB Agreement which it successfully achieved on the 15th of November 2019.
TAM also entered into negotiations with Highveld Steel Industrial Park (Witbank) to rent extensive facilities from them where TAM will operate its plant and processes from. It made business sense to rent facilities from Highveld as Highveld has all of the facilities & infrastructure needed for TAM Alloys and Energy, such as:
- bulk electricity on site,
- sufficient and abundant water supply,
- large volume of gas supply from Sasol on site,
- more than 500 ton per day of oxygen on site,
- large rail infrastructure available on site (managed by Makyoa) and
- most important – all the primary EIA’s in place which saves a lot of time and money
